| "Violence, never again! War, never again! Terrorism, never again! In the name of God, may every religion bring upon the earth justice and peace, forgiveness and life, love!" - Pope John Paul II |
Let's define the two important variables taken up on this research:
Religion:
- An organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules to worship a god or group of gods.
- An interest, a belief, or an activity that is very important to a person or group.
Peace:
- The absence of war and other hostilities.
- Freedom from quarrels and disagreement; harmonious relations
- Inner contentment
- It is an occurrence of harmony characterized by lack of violence, conflict behaviors and the freedom from fear of violence.
I had been pondering about this question for some time. Religion can be liberating, but can also ruin a person, a society, or a nation. I do believe that peace is achievable, but it is a long, hard, and at times, violent process. To attain peace, we must practice tolerance on all religions and remember that all world religions have similar ideals of love, the same goals benefiting humanity through spiritual practice, and the same effect of making their followers into better human beings (Dalai Lama).
In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "Be the change that you wish to see in the world".
Upon my readings, I collected passages that I think support my argument.

- Buddhists believe that peace can only be attained once all suffering ends.
- Each religion works in its own way to lessen human suffering and contribute to world civilization. CONVERSION IS NOT THE POINT. - Dalai Lama
- The true healing, the true religious unity is not a product of self-restraint of aggressive impulses. IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD. - Jeffrey Wattles, 2001
- "People have to start loving God and stop loving churches. We so-called religious people say to mankind, 'Have tolerance, love one another,' but to do that you have to sacrifice something - your prejudice and your prestige - for the sake of humanity. Then, you can go in harmony." - Punditji, 2000
- "Justice and fraternal love are the two indispensable pillars of true peace among people." - Chief Amadou Gasseto, Representative of traditional African religions
- "The sincere desire for peace has to be translated intoa firm decision to remove every obstacle to achieving peace. Here the various religions can make an important contribution, as they have often done in the past, by speaking out against war and bravely facing the consequent risks. DIVINE LOVE IS THE FOUNDATION OF THE RECONCILIATION TO WHICH ALL OF US ARE CALLED." - Pope John Paul II
This may be an old, if not battered, cliche, but hey! GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!
